Xanthalasma are fatty deposits that form that form in on the upper or lower eyelids and are completely benign. They may be due to high cholesterol and it is therefore recommended that you approach your GP to investigate your cholesterol levels. Should you like these fatty deposits to be removed for aesthetic reasons, this is normally done under local anaesthetic as an outpatient procedure. Please note that if your cholesterol levels are not controlled, the xanthalasma may recur and further excisions might be required.
